Home Decor and Design Book Recommendations

Home Decor and Design Book Recommendations

A book on home design and interior design can be a great inspiration. However, finding design inspiration is not easy unless you know where to look. Pinterest can be a great place and you can make idea boards (and share them) but sometimes you may just want to hold someting in your hands and be device-free.

Here are some suggestions for something tangible. A collection of home and interior design books with links to the specific book page on Amazon. Reverting back to paper can be comforting and for some of us (at least) familiar too.

Collected Interiors: Rooms That Tell a Story

How does one create a cohesive space using a varied collection of decor and art? That’s a question designer Philip Mitchell strives to answer in his work, which is showcased in his debut book, Collected Interiors.

Brilliant photographs take readers on in-depth tours of nine homes, ranging from an elegant Upper East Side pied-à-terre to a classic cottage on the water in Nova Scotia.

Since 2002, Philip Mitchell Design Inc. has been designing homes around the world, and his work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Veranda, House Beautiful, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal.

Workstead: Interiors of Beauty and Necessity

Workstead is a Brooklyn-based design studio that masterfully combines traditional inspiration with contemporary elegance.

Workstead has been designing interiors for residential and hospitality projects since its founding in 2009, creating interiors that feel restrained—but never too spare—allowing the craftsmanship of individual furnishings to really shine. This book takes the reader through 10 homes. Their work, told through the lens of a selection of their most notable projects to date, is inspiring, unique, and always thoughtfully considered.

As I See It: A Life in Detours

Thomas A. Kligerman is an accomplished architect based in New York City. He was raised in a New England college town before moving to the high desert of New Mexico. Tom is an extensive traveler, having lived in France, England and most recently at The American Academy in Rome as a visiting scholar.

This book is a celebration of the power of the smartphone camera combined with Thomas A. Kligerman’s unique eye. A new take on the notion of armchair travel – exuberant, witty, and expert.

By Design: The World's Best Contemporary Interior Designers

Are you looking for a wealth of design inspiration from a slew of today’s best designers?

Look no further than Phaidon’s latest volume, a collection of contemporary spaces by top designers, including Beata Heuman, Darryl Carter, Kelly Wearstler, Young Huh, Brigitte Romanek, Kit Kemp, and many more. The projects were selected by a nominating group of experts in design and architecture, so each one meets the standards of some of the world’s most discerning eyes.

A richly illustrated, authoritative global survey of more than 100 of the best and most creative interior designers and decorators working today.

At Home: Evocative & Art-Forward Interiors

How to create an elegant, contemporary interior that still feels warm? There’s no better expert than Brian Paquette. In At Home, the designer shows his approach to creating spaces rich with texture—plus offers practical tips on everything from breaking up open floor plans to maximizing storage.

Beginning with the motto, “Function and comfort, first and always,” Paquette explores each client’s interests and lifestyle to create homes that reflect their identity, history, and aspirations.

Beachside: Windsor Architecture and Design

Beachside presents a wide array of the houses in this seaside community, organized by room. The interiors, all executed with exquisite craftsmanship and appointed with fine finishes, range in style from traditional to sleekly contemporary. Elegant-yet-casual seaside living at its best.

Beachside opens the doors of its private residences for the first time. This is a beautifully produced book with great text and photographs.
